What Is The Pulping Process Of Waste Paper Raw Materials?

September 18, 2023

Waste paper is a common pulping raw material that can be converted into pulp through the following steps:

1. Collect waste paper: First, you need to collect various types of waste paper, including waste cardboard, old newspapers, waste envelopes, etc. This waste paper may come from recycling centres, homes, offices or waste from industrial processes.

2. Sorting and Preparation: Once the waste paper is collected, it needs to be sorted and prepared. This includes separating different types of waste paper and removing contaminants such as tape, metal clips, plastics, etc. Waste paper is usually cut into small pieces for subsequent processing.

3. Soaking and washing: The prepared waste paper needs to be soaked in water to soften the pulp. The soaking time can be adjusted as needed. Next, a washing process takes place to remove impurities, grease, and ink. This is usually accomplished through physical and chemical methods.

4. Pulping process: Once the waste paper has been soaked and washed, it can be fed into the pulping equipment. Pulp making methods can be divided into two categories:

    a. Mechanical pulping: This method uses mechanical force to separate the fibers in the pulp. Common mechanical pulping equipment includes high-speed mixers, vibrating screens and washers.

    b. Chemical pulping: Chemical pulping uses chemical treatments to break down the wood fibers in waste paper so that the pulp can be more easily extracted. Common chemical pulping methods include alkaline pulping, sulfuric acid pulping and peroxide pulping.

5. Dehydration and drying: After pulping is completed, excess water needs to be removed from the pulp. This can be achieved by methods such as pressing, centrifugation or air drying.

6. Refining and bleaching (optional): Depending on the requirements of the final product, the pulp can be subjected to further refining and bleaching processes to improve the quality and color of the paper.

7. Pulp finished products: Finally, after pulping is completed, it can be used to make various paper products, such as paper, cardboard, toilet paper, paper towels, packaging materials, etc.

In general, the pulping process of waste paper is a key step in converting waste paper into renewable pulp raw materials. This helps recycle waste paper, reduce resource waste, and reduce dependence on natural resources such as forests. Different types of waste paper and pulping methods can produce pulp with different characteristics to meet different industrial and consumer needs.
